Beginners’ course in Lappeenranta

Asahi is starting this autumn’s beginners’ course in Lappeenranta! The beginning date is 5.11.2025 at 19:30 at the Lappeenranta City Sports Building’s Wrestling hall. Don’t worry if you can’t make it then, because you can join in later as well. Just contact us and we’ll tell you how you can join in.

We train 2 times a week, every week (when not on holidays) at these times:

  • Wednesdays at 19:30 in the wrestling hall
  • Fridays at 19:00 in the judo hall

Puhumme myös Suomea!

Curriculum

The basic course aims to give you the foundation about Aikido, plain and simple. At the end, you’ll have a basic understanding on what Aikido is, how it’s trained and what you’ll be learning after the course. We train with both wooden training weapons, such as swords, spears, staves and knives, and in unarmed hand-to-hand techniques.

The techniques taught on course won’t be too intense as they must be suitable for beginners. But don’t worry, we’ll also demonstrate some more advanced techniques, such as bigger throws and joint locks, so you can see what you can learn if you continue training after the course.

Participating

You don’t need any athletic, sport or martial arts background to join the club! Aikido can be trained by anyone regardless of age, gender or athletic ability. The training can be as intense as you want it, from so little intensity you won’t sweat at all, to so intense that you’ll feel like you just ran a marathon. We have something for everyone.

We recommend you dress for indoor exercise, such as with a t-shirt and sweatpants. We also recommend taking a water bottle with you, and maybe a towel if you plan on taking a shower after training. If you happen to have a previous judo uniform, feel free to wear that as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the course’s instructor, Joonas Reinholm, directly via WhatsApp / Signal / Telegram at +358442111474. He’ll answer any questions you might have about the course or the club.

Where to go

During the course’s start date, wednesday 5.11.2025, members of our club wearing their white training uniforms will be at the Lappeenranta Sports Building’s lobbby areas to meet you. They’ll tell you where to go. If you could, please arrive at the sports building before the training starts, so around 19:20 if you can. This’ll give us time to show you the places and where to change your training clothes.

If you already happen to know where the wrestling hall is, you can go wait at its entrance on your own as well.

Prices

The course costs 60€ in total. This price also allows you to train with the club for the rest of the year, even after the beginners’ course is over. An insurance is available for the duration of the beginners’ course free of charge for those who wish to have one, courtesy of the Finnish Aikido Federation.

Please note that some training sessions require an additional entry fee of a few euros that is paid directly to the city of Lappeenranta, the owner of the Sports Bulding where we train. We as a club can’t affect this entry fee and even our regular members and instructors have to pay it. The fee is used for the upkeep of Sports Building and is decided by the city of Lappeenranta.
